Aishihik Integrated Wildlife Management Plan
Habitat: Planning Actions 1999-2003

Concerns

Few community-based concerns about wildlife habitats occurred in the consultation phase of the plan but a number of specific measures arose during both the first and second workshops. In general, wildlife habitats in the planning area were not considered to be under imminent threat. This prompted one resident to recommend that the documentation of key habitats for protection should be a primary objective for this plan. It should also be noted that specific habitat issues related to bison have been addressed through the separate Bison Management Plan.

Solutions

In general, solutions to community concerns could be summarized as:
a) Continue to document key wildlife habitats in the planning area and work towards protecting and establishing mitigating plans to reduce impact of developments on wildlife
b) Address specific concerns about habitats with appropriate actions

Actions

Actions which implement the above habitat solutions are scheduled and assigned in the plan as follows:

Note: The schedule for the planning year is based on the biological year, i.e. after young are born, for greater consistency between population and harvest monitoring information. The planning year is June 1 to May 31, i.e. where an action item is slated for 2000 this means from June 1, 2000 to May 31, 2001.
