Action Details: Population (Grizzly Bears)

Action: Get on-the-land observations of females with cubs of year and bear behaviour in general

Because grizzly numbers are very difficult to monitor, other means of tracking status need to be used. One of these could be documenting sightings of grizzly females with cubs as an indicator of reproductive success in the population. Outfitters and other people on the land could be a source of such information which should be collected as part of the annual outfitter meetings conducted at the end of the hunting season. Additional information on the behaviour of bears in general could provide a qualitative assessment of whether bear behaviour is changing especially in regard to human/bear contacts. This has more than usual significance where the bear population is shared with Kluane National Park and bear/human interactions are greater than normal.
