Action Details: Harvest Actions: Redesign permit system for residents to allow harvest allocation by Subzone and implement. This will require a regulation change and will need to go through the public review process. If proposed this fall, the regulation could be included in the 1998/99 hunting synopsis. The regulation could be specific to the Alsek Area and not Yukon wide. There are many options involved with the permit system and these should be summarized so that the most appropriate options become apparent. Much of this will be accomplished through completion of the harvest management guidelines by YDRR. Sundry permits may be an option. The entire Alsek plan will rely on a determination of the sustainable harvest for each moose management unit based on its population status and other considerations. Such figures should be worked out for a bulls only harvest and then reworked to indicate how many cows could be taken - and what affect that would have on the total available harvest for that unit. It will be necessary to coordinate the number of resident permits with CAFN hunting in the same area to ensure that the total sustainable harvest limit is not exceeded. (See also Cow Hunting/Concern)
