Action Details: Populations Actions: Look into options for wolf management program for the Alsek and Yukon area. A variety of wolf management methods exist and should be fully documented as part of the background for a wolf management program. Of equal or greater importance are the public discussion and decision making components of such programs for which there is also considerable documentation. Checking with other planning process in Yukon would also be helpful. For example, the Southern Lakes Caribou Recovery Program does not include wolf control but accepts an expanded time frame for rebuilding to occur. Alternatively, the Integrated Ross River plan is considering a wolf management program on the Finlayson Range. In Mayo, the first integrated plan addressed concerns about wolf predation and moose population levels. The second plan does not deal with wolves at all, but focuses on harvest controls in overhunted areas.
