RECOMMENDATION RRC-4 To the Yukon Department of Renewable Resources and the Yukon Fish and Wildlife
Management Board Current Status: Use of off-road-vehicles in remote areas of NNDTT is currently unmanaged. A popular method of reaching such areas for hunting is by 4-wheeler ATV's which are offloaded from vehicles or flown into lakes. Concern: The unregulated use of 4-wheeler ATV's in NNDTT is causing habitat destruction, wildlife disturbance and increased trail cutting. RECOMMENDATION to YDRR & YFWMB: The Council recommends that in 1997/98 the Yukon Department of Renewable Resources take steps to define off-road-vehicle and related access problems as they pertain to the disturbance of wildlife and their habitats and also to gather background information on how such management concerns have been addressed elsewhere. The Council further recommends that, in cooperation with the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management Board, a Workshop be convened in 1998/99 to provide direction in solving off-road-vehicle and related access management problems.
