Action Details: Habitat Consider protection of key FCH habitats through Land Claims process Although quite widely dispersed in the other seasons, the Finlayson Caribou Herd becomes quite concentrated on a relatively small winter range (at least in average/deep snow years). Part of this range has already been recently burned making the remainder even more important for the herd's survival. The designation of 'Special Management' areas according to Chapter 10 of the Umbrella Final Agreement has also been a component of each First Nation Final Agreement and could be used for the protection of the winter range or other key FCH habitats. Alternatively, Category A or B land designations could be used for such protection. The RRDC is already considering this with respect to the FCH winter range but it is also requesting further assistance in the identification of key areas and support from Yukon Conservation Society and the Yukon Fish and Game Association in getting protection for them.
