Look into possibility of public safety corridor on the North Canol road

Potentially dangerous situations exist due to a high level of road hunting on the North Canol road. First Nations have camps near the roadside. A public safety "no-shooting" corridor would apply to all hunters. There are many options in terms of width, length, season, etc. The corridor could be established as an emergency measure by the Minister (valid for 90 days). A more permanent solution is to recommend it to the YFWMB. Full community discussion of this issue should take place in the summer of 1997 so that a proposal may be ready by early fall.

Other options/interim measures:

  1. Sign on the North Canol requesting no hunting within 500 metres of the road due to location of many campsites there
  2. Handouts at check station
  3. Message on vehicle garbage bags
  4. Smaller signs with more details
  5. Public Service Announcements on CHON-FM
  6. Television Public Service Announcement
