Action Details: Population Measure cow/calf ratios Annual fall calf/cow ratios are relatively inexpensive to obtain and are the best available means of monitoring the status of the population without actually doing a census. Such information is also useful for comparison with census results, (e.g. if the calf/cow ratio was good for several years but the census showed a population drop, you might wonder if the count was accurate or whether adult mortality was underestimated). The agreement between Cominco and RRDC is that someone from Ross River First Nation must be included in the survey flights. Westmin Resources has also agreed to participate in the composition surveys for the 1997/1998 survey year. Information from on-the-land observers will also be obtained for comparison.
