Action Details: General

Government Reports

Concern: Summaries of population and harvest information for RRDTT in government reports attract hunters to the area.

Access to government information on wildlife in the Ross River area and the use of such information by the government in its publications, both scientific and general (e.g. hunting synopsis) needs to be reviewed. Frustration was expressed by the RRDC over their efforts to cooperate in rebuilding wildlife populations only to have their successes 'advertised'. Attraction of hunters to the area results in greater competition for and harvest pressure on the resource. Since this concern has been expressed elsewhere in the territory, it is expressed as a recommendation for consultation and a territory wide government policy on the use of wildlife information. (Recommendation R-6)
