Re: Use of Wildlife Information

Current Status:

Information on Yukon wildlife, such as population inventories, habitats, and most harvest summaries are available to the public on request or presented in a variety of government publications.

Concern:

For a variety of reasons some wildlife information may be sensitive either to harvesters or for reasons of protecting populations or their habitats. At present there is no government policy as to what kind or level of wildlife information should be available or presented to the public.

RECOMMENDATION to YDRR:

In order to adequately protect wildlife and their habitats as well as to encourage community participation and cooperation in wildlife management programs, the RRDC recommends that the Yukon Department of Renewable Resources seek public input in preparing a comprehensive policy on the use of wildlife information by the Government of the Yukon.
