Pickhandle Lakes Habitat Protection Area Yukon Fish and Wildlife Co-Management

Pickhandle Lakes Habitat Protection Area

The Pickhandle Lakes lie in the traditional territory of the Kluane First Nation and White River First Nation. The area is a diverse complex of small lakes, pothole lakes, marshes and bogs with the Koidern River meandering through it.

The Kluane First Nation called for this area to be protected as part of its Land Claim Final Agreement. The Yukon government will do this by making 51km2 of these lands a Habitat Protection Area (HPA). Designation will help conserve habitat, encourage public appreciation and maintain traditional and current uses of the area.
